About Whitby

The popular fishing port of Whitby, with its picturesque harbour and marina, is a town full of character and history.

Explore ‘old’ Whitby, with its narrow cobbled streets nestling beneath the imposing ruins of the Abbey, or cross the River Esk via the swing bridge and discover the vibrant seaside resort.

Reminders of the proud maritime heritage surround you in Whitby, with museums, Heritage Centre and galleries. A statue of Captain James Cook, the great explorer, stands high above West Cliff surveying his adopted home port, which is regularly visited by a replica of his ship H.M.Bark Endeavour. At any time the harbour is a lively and interesting place to visit.

Situated twixt the coastline and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, with its pretty villages, steam railway, and wonderful walking country, Whitby has something for everyone.
